What is TestoGen?
There is another product out in the marketplace that has a very similar name to TestoGen called TestoGen XR. TestoGen XR is a product that is produced by Ronnie Coleman, which is a totally different product. Just wanted to point that out from the outset.
The slight difference is name, I believe, has caused some confusion with people who were intending to purchase Ronnie Coleman’s product TestoGen XR, but inadvertently purchased Wolfson’s product TestoGen instead.
Anyway, I just wanted to point that out, just in case you weren’t aware of the difference, before we get any further into this review.
Okay, so now that’s awkwardly out of the way, let’s delve deeper into Wolfson’s TestoGen product.
So like a lot of Test boosters, TestoGen has been marketed as a one of the best test boosters on the market.
One of the main ingredients in TestoGen’s formula is D-Aspartic Acid, which is what a lot of top testo brands tend to use for their main testosterone boosting ingredient.
There are several published studies that show the link between taking D-aspartic acid and an increase in testosterone level.
Who manufactures TestoGen?
Testogen is manufactured by WOLFSON BERG LIMITED and from what I can tell they have been in the supplementation business for over a decade. They produce other supplements beside TestoGen, but primarily products in the bodybuilding niche.
According to their website their business address in located in Cyprus.
How does TestoGen Work?
One of the main ingredients in TestoGen is D-Aspartic Acid which is an amino acid that through a variety of studies has been shown to increase testosterone level by up to 42% in some cases.
Tribulus Terrestris is a product that is also referred to as the Devils Claw is shown to increase testosterone. However, in my experiments with this product it didn’t make much of a difference at all. But on the positive side, I also didn’t experience any side effects using this product either. So whilst you might not experience any reall benefits from supplementing with this product, you won’t experience any side effects using it either.
Zinc – Is an important element to have in you daily diet whether you’re a bodybuilder or not as it can help to increase your testosterone levels. However, the amount of Zinc that is outlined in TestoGen appears to be in excess. Whilst Zinc is an important element, too much Zinc can be problematic. The upper limit of Zinc tolarance is 40 mg per day, although Zinc can be tolerated at 100mg per day, this upper limit should be confined to a short period of time (2-4 months).
There are several types of Zinc readily available in the marketplace and each gives you a different dosage of elemental zinc. For example, 72mg of Zinc gluconate is equivalent to 9.3mg of elemental zinc. 72mg of Zinc citrate is equivalent to 24.6mg of elemental zinc. 72mg of Zinc sulfate is equivalent to 16.3mg of elemental zinc and 72mg of Zinc sulfate is equivalent to 15.2mg of elemental zinc.
Vitamin D which if you get a lot of natural sunlight isn’t a problem, but if you don’t then could be beneficial in helping to retain your testosterone and also help in the absorption of the ingredients.
Bioperine (which is a fancy name for “Black Pepper”) is included in the new TestoGen formula and mainly included to help absorption.
Does TestoGen Work?
There are several ingredients that together (supposedly) helps you to increase your testosterone levels naturally. D-Aspartic Acid which seems to be the most active ingredients has been suggested to increase one’s testosterone levels if taken in adequate dosages, however this is not what research seems to suggest, in fact the oppose is true.
Who is TestoGen Maded For?
Testosterone declines as we age, so a product like this would be great for older men as it can increase testosterone and bring their testosterone level back to normal. This product could also be advantageous for bodybuilders to help them make more gains as a result of increased testosterone levels.
Is TestoGen safe – are there any side effects?
TestoGen is marketed as a safe and natural testosterone booster. The ingredients listed on the bottle appear to be in lower dosages, except Zinc. Too much Zinc can be problematic and lead to nausea, diarrhea, metallic taste, kidney and stomach damage and other side effects.
The fact that TestoGen has 72mg of Zinc per serve is a little worrying as the upper limited of Zinc for a normal human being is 11mg for an adult male and 8mg for an female. Having said that, it is unknown as to what kind of Zinc they are using in their blend as 105mg of Zinc gluconate 105 mg is equivalent to 15 mg of Zinc.
Accord to WebMD there doesn’t appear to be any known side effect with D-Aspartic Acid, given that is the main marketed ingredient in TestoGen.
According to studies that lasted over 90 days, the side effect for Tribulus seems to be mild and mostly uncommon, however some side effects include, stomach pain, cramping, diarrhea, nausea, committing, constipation, excitation, difficulty sleeping. In rare cases, reports of kidney damage have been linked to taking tribulus. The long-term safety of tribulus is unknown.
Dosage / Directions
There are 30 servings, which is 120 capsules per container. Each serving size is 4 capsules per day, to be taken with food. These capsules can be all taken in one sitting, however the body will tolerate the supplement easier if taken over the period of the entire day.
Do I need to cycle TestoGen?
According to their website, TestoGen can be taken continuously however given the increased levels in Zinc which is still unknown, you probably should cycle it to be safe. Will there by a drop in gains as a result? Studies have shown a raise level of testosterone tends to stay around for a little while, but will drop back to original levels overtime.

What I Liked about TestoGen
- The supplementation of D-aspartic acid is still relatively new with unknown long term side effects, but there are numerous favorable reports that suggest D-aspartic acid not only increases your testosterone, but have no short term side effect.
- Whilst most energy boosters and testosterone booster can elevate blood pressure, TestoGen appears to lower blood pressure in people who have naturally higher blood pressure.
- The price of TestoGen appears to be cheaper than other brands.
What I didn’t like
- It can cause acne.
- Zinc too high for long term use.
- Vitamin too low
Summary
The new formula of TestoGen and addition of ingredients like, Magnesium, Boron, Vitamin K1, Nettle Leaf Extract and Bioperine, seems to have balanced out a lot of TestoGen’s previous failing’s. And apart from the high amounts of Zinc that can be easily remedied by cycling the product, I give TestoGen as a natural testosterone booster a thumbs up.
